Historic Site & Building Guidelines

The preservation of the historic buildings requires a limit on the number of visitors at one time. Please be patient if a brief wait is necessary.  Please do not touch the wallpaper and furnishings, which may be irreplaceable.  The floors of many of the restored buildings are original and at least 150 years old. Please respect them. The site includes paved and unpaved roads, and uneven terrain that lead to the various public spaces, including restored historic buildings. Plan accordingly and wear comfortable shoes.

Native Plants

Help us preserve our gardens for future generations to enjoy by not picking the plants and fruit.

Strollers

Due to hazards posed by narrow doorways in emergency situations please leave non-essential strollers outside of the historic buildings.

Lost & Found

Historic Richmond Town is not responsible for lost or stolen personal items. Please return any found items to the Third County Courthouse & Visitor Center to inquire about any items that may be lost.

Restrooms

Restrooms are located in the lower level of the Museum and in the Third County Courthouse & Visitor Center.

Photography

You are welcome to take photographs of the buildings and grounds for your personal use.  Commercial photographers and filmmakers must obtain a permit. Please be advised that by entering the site, you irrecoverably consent to be photographed or videotaped by an authorized Historic Richmond Town staffer. You also irrevocably consent that any recorded images and audio may be reproduced in any and all media devised for promotional, advertising, educational, archival, or any other purposes in association with Historic Richmond Town.

Weather & Emergency Closures

When inclement weather occurs, we encourage guests to explore the Historical Museum and Visitor Center, both of which are indoors. In the case of a government-mandated quarantine or a severe weather emergency  visitors will be notified by staff and will receive a partial or full refund for any purchased tickets.
